BEING A CITIZEN OF THE WILD

What Do We Stand For?

DEEP TRAVEL

Citizens of the Wild is not just a great hiking company. When we create our trips, we place a big emphasis on finding deeply cultural experiences that peel back the barrier between the traveller and the local. We do this so that our clients leave with unforgettable memories and a true understanding of where they have been.

REAL GUIDES

For us, guiding is not something that you do once a year or as a side gig. We are full-time and fully qualified International Mountain Leaders. Years of specific guide training and experience, alongside a life dedicated to all kinds of mountain craft, from ski touring to north face climbing to mountain biking, have shaped our expertise. There hasn't been a week gone by for nearly a decade where Tomas or Killian haven't been on a mountain. Our clients tell us they see the difference, especially when it matters most.

TRUE ADVENTURE

Each journey can be an adventure, but we are constantly on the lookout for route options that take a great hike and make it even greater. Some people call it getting off the beaten path; we like to call it seeking the wild. That may mean taking time to explore wild trails above the Khumbu Valley's normal path on the way to Everest Base Camp or taking less-travelled paths through the Alps in the hope of finding some wild ibex. Our experience as mountaineers and guides allows us to safely assess which adventures make sense, and when they do, we go for them.

Our Story

Becoming the Citizens of the Wild

The path we followed

Years ago, we (Tomás and Killian) began dreaming of adventures beyond the confines of our magnificent backyard in Killarney. One late night, we dreamed together of climbing the biggest mountain within touching distance: Mont Blanc! Three months later, we stood on its summit and looked around to see incredible peaks of all shapes and sizes; the scope for adventure was endlessly larger than we had imagined. Little did we know then that within five years, we would both be living at Mont Blanc’s base, working as international guides, having climbed it from several angles, alongside plenty of other adventures! We found a way to lead a life in which our adventures took us to ever further reaches of the globe. Through this commitment to adventure, we gained a high level of expertise and knowledge of the wild places we frequented. This eventually allowed us to share this experience with others and inspire them to embark on their own adventures.

Sharing the wild

We believe everyone has a right to benefit from reconnection to the wild—a right to nature, you might say. We believe time spent in nature is essential food for the soul and shelter for the mind. But we also know that all rights bear responsibilities. As Citizens of the Wild, we have a responsibility to act as guardians and help protect and educate about our wild spaces. At the core of our company is a simple idea: great trips to the magnificent wild places of Earth are always life-changing. That’s why our trips will always be planned meticulously and designed to bring a spotlight to the most beautiful and interesting elements of the natural world, the culture which surrounds it, and the people and wildlife which inhabit it. We can’t wait to get started, so contact us now and become, with us, a Citizen of the Wild.
